It is a beautiful country, indeed. Just feels good to sit around and do nothing, while enjoying the view and the people passing. A shot from a distance.
As I sat at my table having my drink, this guy walked up to me and we started chatting. I loved the contrast of his hair color and his skin. I wondered if he has always had his hair white. . . So I asked him. He said I should wait and see what age will do to my hair. I told him, " age" treats his hair beautifully / We both laughed.
I stole two hours from work to come and visit. I haven't seen you in a long time.
. . . I took him to the Police, with a secret hope to have his dad arrested for abuse, negligence and stupidity. . .

These guys get together every Saturday afternoon for a serious football game ( on the beach, please ) / While I sit around and drink beer. ( almost ashamed of myself. . . for not joining them ! / Instead, I took pictures.
Sunday 6 A.M, This side of the world,
Hundreds of people gather at the beach for a weekly exercises, including jogging, and stretching and everything else in between. Very impressive to see.
I run into this guy every Sunday. As the crowd get together. His, is to clean people's car for some "change", which he does very well.
I asked him if I could take a picture of him. He said " Yes".
This is one of my favorite black and white photos.
This is how the hair looks on African women's head, before they decide to go into a war with it , and destroy it completely, by adding all sort of chemicals and crazy products to it. Eventually this beautiful hair fades out , breaks completely and stop growing. It turns into something unrecognizable and ugly.
I pray that this beautiful young girl keeps her hair natural as long as possible, and that the adults around her do not intervene with their power to destroy this beautiful God given hair.
It was a long and hot day. I was sitting in my car waiting for my buddy to come back. This man approached me and we started a conversation. He eventually saw the camera sitting on the back seat , and he asked me if I could take a picture of him. Of course, I said. So here is a picture of my friend.

This guy spent lot of time waiting for me so I can take his photo. Nicely dressed, in his Sunday best, before heading to church. I figured I should try both color and black and white. This is how it comes out.

Carrying on the head is common practice over here. It is so common that it becomes part of everyday life. We don't take time to give it another look. But thinking about it, one will notice that the practice is not as simple as we can imagine. Carrying on the head, walking and carrying other stuffs in your hands, ( mostly chairs and table to use once in the market.) and all this simultaneously. A big applause to all these women all over.
An afternoon walking on the beach under the hot African sun. A pause to look at the camera for the picture.
An afternoon in front of a drink. This guy is part of every project in his community. He is a school teacher, a community organizer, and everything else in between.
Over here, he was taking a break from all his activities.

This is the last year before university. If everything goes well and I pass my exams at the end of the year, guess what? Next year, I won't be wearing these uniforms any longer . . . I will be in University.

It's not only moving that creates new starting points. Sometimes all it takes is a subtle shift in perspective, an opening of the mind, an intentional pause and reset, or a new route to start to see new options and new possibilities. Taking a pause in your life, taking a pause for the photo.
Currently, more than two-thirds of the African population must leave their house to fetch water for domestic use and drinking.

Spending the afternoon at my boyfriend's place.
